Cricket's Three Formats and Favourite Tournaments

Much of the fun of cricket betting depends on the format. T20 is the fastest — a full match in just twenty overs, so odds shift minute by minute. In every BPL and IPL match, the excitement fans feel in the stands is matched by how sharply the odds move for bettors.

In the ODI format, strategy across fifty overs is a little different. The run rate in the middle overs after the Powerplay and the finishing in the last ten overs — odds take a new shape at each of these three stages. In ICC events or the Asia Cup, this movement is especially noticeable in Bangladesh Tigers matches.

Test cricket is a five-day game of patience. Wickets, pitch conditions, weather — Test betting relies heavily on analysis of all these factors. 09 bad offers extensive markets for major events like the T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship.

Placing a live bet while watching BPL in Dhaka and betting pre-match on international games — both experiences are available at 09 bad. You can find live markets for all tournaments together on the 09 bad Bet page.

Football and Other Sports — What's the Difference?

Alongside cricket, 09 bad also offers betting on football and several other sports. However, the structure of markets and odds differs for each sport.

Aspect Cricket Football
Match Length 2–5 days (depending on format) 90 minutes (+extra time)
Possible Outcomes 2 (win/loss; no draw in T20/ODI) 3 (win/draw/loss)
Live Odds Speed Changes every ball and wicket Changes on goals or red cards
Popular Markets Top Batsman, Total Runs, Toss Goalscorer, Corners, Handicap
Bangladeshi Interest Very high (BPL, IPL, T20 World Cup) High (English Premier League, Spanish League)

Because football has three possible outcomes, odds are generally more spread out. In T20 and ODI cricket there are only two outcomes — so market analysis is somewhat simpler, but the live situation changes quickly.

Popular Betting Markets — How Each One Works

Each market has its own rules. Below, six common markets are explained in plain terms.

Match Winner

Match Winner

Which of the two teams will win — this is the simplest market. Pick Team A; if Team A wins you get paid, if they lose you lose. In T20 and ODI there is no draw, so there are only two options.

Toss

Toss Market

Bet on the outcome of the toss before the match starts. This is a completely independent event — it has no connection to team strength or form. Odds close to a 50-50 probability are available.

Top Batsman

Top Batsman

Who will score the most runs in an innings for a particular team. Odds are set based on the team's batting order — openers are usually available at shorter odds.

Total Runs

Over / Under (Total Runs)

Bet on whether the total runs in a match will be more (over) or fewer (under) than a set number. The pitch, weather and team form all influence this market.

Multi Bet

Multi Bet (Multiple Selections)

Multiple selections from different matches or markets are combined into one bet. If all selections are correct, the odds multiply to give a larger return — but if even one is wrong, the entire stake is lost. See the FAQ for an example.

First Wicket

Over of First Wicket

Bet on how many overs will pass before the first wicket falls. The bowling side's pace and the form of the batting side's opening partnership determine this market. It is very active during live betting.

Read the Terms and Conditions page for full details on general betting rules and conditions.

How to Read Odds — Three Formats Explained

Betting odds are written in three different formats — Decimal, Fractional and American. All three can represent the same probability; only the way they are expressed differs.

Format Team A Example Team B Example
Decimal 3.00 1.50
Fractional 2/1 1/2
American +200 -200

Example 1 — Betting on Team A to win:

Stake ৳1,000. Decimal odds 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200. If Team A wins, you get back ৳3,000 (৳2,000 profit + ৳1,000 stake). If Team A loses, you lose ৳1,000.

Example 2 — Team B is the favourite:

Team B's odds are 1.50 = 1/2 = American -200 (minus means you need to stake ৳200 to make ৳100 profit). On a ৳1,000 stake, if Team B wins you get back ৳1,500 (৳500 profit).

All three numbers express the same probability — only the format is different. 09 bad generally uses the Decimal format, which is the easiest to read.

Live In-Play Betting — New Odds Every Ball

Live

In pre-match betting, odds are set before the match starts. In live in-play betting, they change after every ball. When a wicket falls, the odds move against the batting side; when power hitting continues, the odds move against the bowling side.

Say Team A is 90 for 3 in the twelfth over. At that point the market is immediately reassessed — how soon will the next wicket fall, and where will the total runs end up — and new odds are formed in response to those questions.

In T20, live odds fluctuate most in the last five overs. In ODI, a wicket in the middle overs also causes a significant shift. The advantage of live betting is that you can make decisions based on what you are watching — but remember, this is for entertainment; do not let emotions drive quick decisions.

What to Watch in Live Betting

  • Read the match tempo — how frequently wickets are falling
  • Check the pitch conditions — on a slow pitch, lower scores are more likely
  • Assess the batting side's approach during the Powerplay
  • A bowler's form in the death overs is reflected in live odds
  • Decide your stake size in advance — do not increase it suddenly mid-session

A Few Things to Know Before You Start Betting

  • Start with one market: Match Winner or Total Runs are straightforward. Try more complex multi bets later.
  • Set a budget: Decide the maximum amount you will spend before each betting session and stick to it.
  • Understand the format: T20 odds change fast, Test odds move slowly. Work out which format you are most comfortable with.
  • No rushing in live betting: Just because odds change quickly does not mean you should make decisions based on emotion — take your time and think clearly.
  • Be aware of multi bets: Odds multiply across multiple selections, but if any single one is wrong you lose the entire stake.
  • Betting is entertainment, not a source of income: Treat it as a form of fun, not as a guaranteed way to earn money.
  • Follow responsible gambling practices: Knowing your limits and taking breaks when needed is the sensible approach.
  • 21+ age rule: You must be at least 21 years old to bet at 09 bad. This rule is strictly enforced.
For more information on responsible betting, read the Responsible Gaming page. Applicable to those aged 21 and above.

Frequently Asked Questions

T20 matches finish in a few hours, so live betting is very active and odds change quickly. In ODI, separate markets are available for the Powerplay, middle overs and death overs. In Test cricket, markets are based on pitch conditions, sessions and innings. T20 and ODI cannot end in a draw, so the Match Winner market has only two options — Test has three (win, draw, loss).

Take three selections with odds of 1.50, 1.70 and 1.80. Multiply them together: 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.80 = 4.59 (approximately). On a ৳100 stake the return is ৳459 — but only if all three selections are correct. If even one is wrong, you lose the entire ৳100. A multi bet offers a higher return, but also carries higher risk.

When a wicket falls, the batting side's innings is weakened — a less experienced batter may come in and the ability to score runs decreases. The betting platform immediately shortens the odds for the batting side. In the same way, if power hitting continues, the odds against the bowling side increase. These real-time changes are what make live betting dynamic.

No — a minus sign means that team is the favourite. In American odds, the minus number shows how much you need to stake to make a ৳100 profit. For example, -200 means you must stake ৳200 to make ৳100 profit. In decimal odds that is 1.50 — a ৳1,000 stake returns ৳1,500 (৳500 profit). A favourite has lower odds because it is considered more likely to win.

Because IPL is the biggest T20 league in the world, each match has more markets and odds are published in greater detail. BPL, being Bangladesh's own league, is especially appealing to local bettors — they know the teams and the style of play. For international matches, particularly the T20 World Cup and ICC events, markets are extensive on both platforms.
